Driving Traffic To Your Blog – An Introduction

Once your blog is created and designed beautifully, you are ready to bring traffic to your blog.

But how do you make this happen?

Before worrying about bringing traffic to your blog, you need a way to measure the traffic coming to your blog. The best way to do this is to use an analytics tool, and the best and free tool to use is Google Analytics. Google Analytics is great, it shows you all the information you need about your blog. It shows, how many people have visited your site, how people found your site, what pages they explored on your site, how they explored it, what operating systems they use, what internet service providers they use, what browser they use, etc. It is amazing, and anyone that owns a blog or a website should use an analytics tool. Signing up with google analytics is free and all you require is a gmail account. Once you have an account you download some code that is automatically generated for you and you insert it in your web page. They provide detailed instruction on everything you need to know.

If you don’t use an analytics tool you will never really know how your blog is performing, so you will never really know if your hard work is being viewed by anyone.

Once you have google analytics installed you are ready to bring traffic to your blog and to monitor your blog’s performance. As food bloggers we are lucky as we have lots of ways to promote our food. There are many “food porn” sites out there that you can submit your pictures to, with a link back to your blog, which in return will drive lots of traffic back to your blog. However, getting your pictures approved to these sites may prove to be quite a challenge, but if your pictures are good enough, the traffic gained can be amazing. We are actually the owners of one of these food porn sites, and that is FoodEpix. I am very proud of this website, my husband and I worked really hard on it to bring it to where it is today.

Some other “food porn” sites are:

I’m sure I’m missing some, so let me know and I’ll add them to the list.

Submitting pictures to these websites and thus creating backlinks to your blog is very important, especially in the early stages of your blog. There are many other ways to bring traffic to your blog which I will talk about later on, but as start with your food blog this is the best bet. Just remember that if your pictures do not get accepted to these websites to not give up, and keep trying. Many times I’ve submitted pictures that were rejected in the past and they were now approved. So keep trying and don’t give up. I know how frustrating it is to have your pictures rejected, especially on dishes that you’ve spent hours making, and to be rejected for composition. Composition is subjective anyway, so out of all the above sites, there will be some that will accept your pictures and some that will not, but that’s life.
